Shadow Work

I’ve always been a fan of Carl Jung and the four major archetypes and wanted to talk about the Shadow for a minute. Saving all the psychoanalytic jargon, the shadow is basically all that unknown stuff about us, the things we hide (even when we don’t consciously know we’re doing it), the darker unrecognized parts of our personality.

The shadow is instinctual, and it’s irrational, and it’s a part of all of us no matter how much we want to pretend it isn’t. The darkness of the shadow is a counterbalance to our light, so to truly know ourselves we have to understand both sides.

Ok, so maybe now you’re thinking you came to read abut book stuff and this doesn’t fit, but I’m just getting there.

Part of my shadow is rooted in insecurity, and in regard to writing that equates to a whole lotta imposter syndrome, and self-doubt. A bunch of people bought the book and told me they were reading it, but no one mentioned it since, text messages were ignored, there aren’t reviews…clearly that means everyone hated it and is just trying to be polite right.

And I only published one book so far, and I’m just an indie author, so does that really even count?

Well, my answer is a resounding hell yes it counts. I’m recognizing these negative thoughts and emotions, and with that I’m able to process them and work through it. Trying to get rid of these denigrating terms of just this or only that, it’s a process, but recognizing they’re there is the first step to eliminating them.

Anyone else racked with these thoughts and feelings, or is it just me?
